The committee for the 2020 National Brass Band Championships is comprised of experienced Christchurch locals. We’re available to provide advice regarding accommodation, rehearsal spaces, transportation, advertising opportunities, dining recommendations, and socialising options.
We have been involved in brass bands for most of our lives and want to make this contest one of the best you have ever attended.

Angela is a self-described ‘career second trombonist’. She is a Life Member of Addington Brass and has been involved in the management of four previous National Championships. She is looking forward to a friendly contest held under one magnificent roof where music and friendship can all come together.

Stephen began his musical career on cornet in Christchurch with the Derry’s Band in 1965. He later took up the mace and has been the Drum Major of Woolston Brass, four National Youth Bands, and both the Drum Major and Manager of the 1985 National Band of New Zealand. Since then he has provided service as Chief Drill Judge (from 2010 to 2019) as well as numerous contest supervisory and organisational roles. He is a life member of BBANZ.

Graeme began his musical career in Woolston Auxiliary in 1954, progressing to Woolston Brass in 1962. He enlisted in the NZ Army Band in 1965 and was selected for the National Band in 1967 and 1970. As the longest-serving member of the New Zealand Army Band he has held multiple posts in South East Asia and New Zealand, including both Drum Major and Bandmaster. He has been involved in both band and contest management for decades, has won the Champion Drum Major title an unprecedented eight times, and is a Life Member of Woolston Brass.

Rebecca has been immersed in the brass band movement her entire life, having grown up listening to her father play cornet with Woolston Brass. At age ten she started playing Tenor Horn through the Woolston academy and is still a member of the Woolston Brass fraternity. Rebecca works as an accountant and spends the remainder of her time at the netball courts, as she works her way up the New Zealand netball umpiring ranks.
Cameron is a drummer and percussionist in the New Zealand Army Band, and is 2IC in the units Communications department.
John Gardner has performed with various musical organisations throughout his life, and is a stalwart Salvationist and Woolstonian.
